Why Choose Bushdog
Choosing and Using the Right Dog Travel Gear
What dog travel gear do I actually need?
For most trips — whether it’s a quick drive to the vet or a long road trip across Australia — the essentials include a secure car restraint or harness, a spill-proof water bowl, and a comfortable travel bed. If you’re heading on your next adventure, consider packing collapsible food and water bowls, a travel mat, and storage for treats. The right dog travel accessories keep your furry friend secure, comfortable, and stress-free no matter the journey.
Why is a car restraint important for my dog’s safety?
A proper car harness or seatbelt clip prevents your dog from being injured during sudden stops or distractions. In Australia, unsecured pets can also put drivers at risk — and in some states, it’s a legal requirement to have them restrained. Bushdog travel gear is built to keep both you and your dog safe, while still allowing them to sit or lie down comfortably on car rides.
What’s the difference between a car harness and a seatbelt clip?
A car harness is worn on your dog’s body and distributes impact evenly across their chest in the event of a sudden stop. A seatbelt clip attaches to an existing harness (never a collar) to secure your pet to the seat. For long-distance travel, we recommend a padded car harness for maximum comfort, paired with our heavy-duty seatbelt clip for extra security.
Are ute tray restraints safe for dogs?
They can be — but only if they’re made specifically for dogs and comply with Australian safety standards. The restraint should prevent your dog from standing too close to the edge, jumping out, or being thrown forward. Bushdog ute tray seatbelts use high-strength materials and secure anchor points tested in real ute tray setups, protecting your dog without overly restricting movement.
How can I make my dog more comfortable during long trips?
Long trips can be stressful for dogs. Use a padded travel bed or blanket to cushion them, stop every 2–3 hours for short walks, and keep water and treats easily accessible. If your dog gets anxious, bringing a familiar toy from home can help. Our dog travel accessories range includes outdoor beds and gear that keeps your dog comfortable no matter the terrain.
What about low-light or night-time travel?
While Bushdog doesn’t currently make light-up travel gear, we design our products to pair with accessories that improve low-light safety — such as clip-on LED collar lights or reflective harnesses. We believe in keeping products simple, strong, and reliable, and letting you add extras based on your adventure needs.
Can I use my dog travel gear for outdoor adventures too?
Absolutely. Many of our products are designed for both vehicle travel and the outdoors. For example, our foldable bowls are perfect for car rides and hiking trails, while our outdoor beds work for camping trips as well as long car journeys. We build our dog travel accessories to handle everything from weekend park trips to rugged outback adventures.
